Miss-leading packaging information, yet again from Kensington, the packaging lets down what would otherwise have received higher praise. Immediately upon reading the package; if I were not a savvy user; I'd have thought this device was something special, for windows 8/8.1 or 10. However, it's not, and it's title 'Gesture Mouse' is silly. It does nothing but things with the controls that other mice have done for years, it's ONLY special feature seems to be the thumb button on the left hand side (so it's only good for right handed users), a button which simply acts like a keyboard left control key....
The 'special' features it proclaims to offer are not even features of the mouse, they're features of the Windows Operating system, and have been present in Windows since Vista!.... to Zoom your browser, hold CTRL (Control) and use the mouse wheel... It's nothing special about the mouse! Outside of programs which don't have the features the packaging professes to provide, you can't zoon in this way... So the mouse is literally just a regular mouse.
Does the mouse make this features appear and work in programs as a feature??... No, not at all, the mouse is just providing a one handed way to hold control and zoom... Or flip pages... Or press back in your browser!... Nothing the software doesn't already do without buying this mouse!
The same for paging forward and backward, which is the next 'feature' of the mouse, it's just calling for CTRL+ENTER and backspace, and again on non-paged applications the mouse does nothing.
This is all really rather reminiscent of my other Kensington item for review this week, that they are scaremongering, if you're not aware of all these zoom and swizzle features being part of the OS, you might be fooled into buying this mouse, but it does nothing novel, nothing 'gesture' orientated anyway.
Add to this that the build quality is pretty low, it felt very cheap, very hollow in ones hand.
Then multiply the features and quality with the fact that it's called 'pro fit', however this is code for 'small and awkward', I had thought it meant it'd fit the hand nicely. This isn't the case at all, the mouse is of that current vogue, the mobile mouse shape, which is short, somewhat fat and lacking width. I found it really uncomfortable. And yes, I understand the need for a small light mouse for mobile use, however, this has a wire... A wireless mobile mouse I can just about tolerate, but a small awkward wired mouse which brings no new features to the table, I'll pass on that thank you very much.
Finally, to nail this coffin lid on this review, the packaging... Kensington seem to have a current fad for a new packaging style, a trapezoidal box, which is annoying to get open, and then once open completely falls apart, so you can't repack the item easily. Indeed the pack opens up something a kin to a take-away sandwich box, and feels just as disposable. It left me with a large amount of recycling material and a mouse which was of no novel use.
I will stick to my full sized desktop mouse, and for laptop use on the go, a wireless mouse rather than this miss guided contraption.
